Draft for RESPECT – Media Contest

Dear Mediattivo people,
Clicking on the following link (respect-concept-02) you will find the draft of the proposal.
Premise
For us (as for others that had been participating in the group for this action plan), inclusiveness is very important. We don’t want only professionals to participate to our contest, win the trip and participate in the camp, but we would like to give the chance also to younger, disadvantaged and unexperienced persons. That’s the reason why, for us, having only 1 winner per country is not a considerable option. And we also reflected about the fact that, if you give priority to the interdisciplinar capacities, many persons somehow skilled in only one sector would not have a chance to win.
Title
  • At the moment the title is just “Respect”. We would really like you to brainstorm a little bit more and not just passively accept the first proposal made. Besides, I personally really don’t like my own proposal, which I made only to move your minds for the brainstorming!

Sections and Number of participants

  • As anyway the sections were too many, we reduced them to 4, maintaining the age cathegories for 3 of the four sections: Section A – Video; Section B – Words & Images; Section C – Audio; Section D – Awareness Campaign
  • This means that for cathegory A, B and C we would have 6 winners x country (3 aged 14-19 + 3 aged 20-25) whereas for section D only 1 winner (the best work, no matter which age), for a total of 7 persons invited to the media camp from every participating country. If a work is presented by a group they will necessarily have to choose 1 representant at the Media Camp (not every body will be able to travel, some will have to participate for the glory.)
  • Why so? As we are 9 countries, 7 winners x 9 would mean 63 persons invited to the media camp. As Paolo suggested, the Youth in Action Programme, Action 1.1, sponsors meetings up to 60 young participants, plus 1-2 adult group leaders per group/country (not more). This means that, since we are looking for funding through the Youth in Action programme, we can only afford to have ca. 60 winners.

As regards the contest and the awareness campaign

  • The idea is to engage youg persons in many ways, from the “low” level of merely expressing themselves, up to the “advanced” level of creating an awareness campaign, which we propose to be also the content of the Media Camp. In which sense? Let’s suppose that we have many winners (7×9 = 63) coming from different countries and skilled in different media. We could keep the respect issue, but let them decline it into 3 sub-topics:
  • Respect nature!; Respect yourself!; Respect the difference!
  • And during the camp we could make them produce a campaign on these 3 topics to then disseminate at a European level
  • What do you think about that?
